Outgoing President Sara Zafar and President Cassie Pfannenstiel

I have attended the annual Kansas Women Attorneys Association (KWAA) conference in Lindsborg, Kansas for twenty years. This year I have the honor of serving as president of an organization that I deeply respect.

When I thought about my focus for the year, I kept coming back to what I love most about KWAA, the people. That’s why this year’s theme is Better Together – Building Community in Every Corner of Kansas.

The people I have met through KWAA have helped me grow, both as an attorney and as a person. Their drive to succeed, paired with their willingness to give their time and knowledge to lift others up, is what makes this organization different.

My Focus for the Year

As president, I’ll focus on growing our community, creating more opportunities for members to connect, and keeping communication open.

As a solo/small firm attorney myself, I also want to put behind-the-scenes systems in place so future leadership transitions are smoother, something I think matters more than people realize in a bar organization run almost entirely by volunteers.

I’m grateful for this opportunity and I’m looking forward to a year of building this community together. If you are a Kansas woman attorney and not yet involved with KWAA, I’d love to change that, reach out and let’s talk.
